We love salsa…and kuduro…and backing it up…and dropping it low

Shakira was definitely our diva for this night (7/29). She and Las Mamasitas, our mother/daughter DJ duo, took us through the full range of emotions – loss, love, lust and letting loose. We are sad to have to say goodbye to these 2 dancer/DJs, we didn’t get nearly enough time together.

If you’re looking to have your very own Latina inspired dance party, you could do no better than checking out this playlist on Spotify:

To top it off, Las Mamasitas didn’t even know this is one of my top 5 dance songs – it was our last fast song and left the room muy caliente:

Time for new sweatbands – DDPP #200!!!!!

Can you believe it? 3,177 songs, 96 different DJs, 2,040 attendees total.

grrrilla beats created the perfect celebratory playlist by gathering some of the best songs we have ever danced to here (7/15). It was a night of high energy and excitement, knowing that we had gathered a whooping 199 times before this one! This is the kind of mix that you hold on to and play at home when you are missing your DDPP fix as every.single.song is a dancer.

I remember the first time we heard this one, we all went crazy for it. It holds up more than 5 years later:

To trip the light fantastic

Never has there been a playlist like this one (7/1). It was at once trippy and beautiful and lush. DJ Owly B gathered all things ‘space’ into one night of swirling dance and had us all reflecting on the vastness of the universe. And you thought we just shook our booties!

Check out the playlist below, if you want some inspiration on really creating to a theme:

And if you want to take it a step further, extending that vast feeling, check out this portion of Carl Sagan’s ‘The Music of Space’:

Deep Cuts

Summer has definitely arrived. Last Friday’s dance party was hot, hot, hot–or at least the dance floor was feeling the heat–as we danced the night away. On Friday, June 17th, we tripped the light fantastic to a music mix made from deep cuts. Our playlist came from a brand new deejay Hot Lava. Maybe that name points to the source of the heat!? Many thanks to our deejay for keeping the party moving. Which of these deep cuts are you familiar with? Check out his complete playlist:

Are you going to join us for our next dance party? We dance again on Friday, July 1st, 8pm at Martell’s in Highland Square. Bring water and wear clothes you can sweat in! See you on the dance floor.

Pop Hits

Akron’s latest dance party was filled with women joining in on the lyrics “Everybody come on dance and sing, Everybody get up and do your thing” while we danced to Madonna’s first club hit Everybody. There was also quite a few of us vocalizing with the chorus “What’s wrong with being confident?” during Demi Lovato’s pop hit Confident. While we usually discourage TALKING on the dance floor–we actually encourage SINGING, while we rock our bodies!  Our last dance party on Friday, June 3rd was a lively event that took its inspiration from a music mix filled with pop hits. Do you like to sing along as you dance?

Feel free to sing along: “You make me feel, alive again…”

DJ Prisoner provided us with our hour’s worth of music. The playlist was made up of pop hits from the past year as well as danceable rock hits from previous decades. There was a little something for everyone in the music mix. See the complete playlist for yourself:

Leave the doldrums of the work week behind you and join us to dance on Friday nights!

Revenge on the Dance Floor

One of our strengths at DDPP-Akron is the vast variety of music at each of our dance parties. Each week’s event includes a unique playlist and we document these playlists on our website. You’ve seen the song database on our website, right? You can locate it on the tabs across the top of the homepage. The song database is a spreadsheet of every song ever played at one of our events–as well as every artist and every playlist. Our deejays use it to make sure they aren’t duplicating recent music mixes, and sometimes it’s used to get inspiration for upcoming music mixes. How do you use the song database?

I said “old-school,” didn’t I?

At our last dance party, Friday May 20th, we enjoyed another hot playlist.  DJ Necronomi-Tron titled his music mix “Revenge” and it was dominated by classic alternative/electronic songs. Old-school Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Oingo Boingo, Ministry and more. What a diversity in music we offer our dancers! The fun in this is that the next event will again offer an all-new playlist too. Music variety is our thing. Many thanks to DJ Necronomi-Tron for keeping us on our toes. Check out his complete playlist below:

We dance again on Friday June 3rd. You’ll be there, right? We try to start the music right at 8pm–we only dance for an hour so if you’re late, you miss out! My point? Don’t be late! Wear something comfortable and you can sweat in. The dance floor heats up! See you Friday June 3rd 🙂

The Name Game

join the girls2

What a delight we had at our last dance party! On Friday, May 6th, our deejay rocked the house with a music mix made from song titles that featured women’s names. This bit of frivolity tipped the scales towards fun and games! DJ Cher-nobyl selected sixteen songs–was your name included in her playlist? Check out the complete set list below. Our deejays take their inspiration from all sorts of places to create all-new playlists for us. The results are that we have a fresh and completely different music mix each time we dance. Muchas gracias to DJ Cher-nobyl for her efforts.
