One of our strengths at DDPP-Akron is the vast variety of music at each of our dance parties. Each week’s event includes a unique playlist and we document these playlists on our website. You’ve seen the song database on our website, right? You can locate it on the tabs across the top of the homepage. The song database is a spreadsheet of every song ever played at one of our events–as well as every artist and every playlist. Our deejays use it to make sure they aren’t duplicating recent music mixes, and sometimes it’s used to get inspiration for upcoming music mixes. How do you use the song database?

I said “old-school,” didn’t I?

At our last dance party, Friday May 20th, we enjoyed another hot playlist.  DJ Necronomi-Tron titled his music mix “Revenge” and it was dominated by classic alternative/electronic songs. Old-school Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Oingo Boingo, Ministry and more. What a diversity in music we offer our dancers! The fun in this is that the next event will again offer an all-new playlist too. Music variety is our thing. Many thanks to DJ Necronomi-Tron for keeping us on our toes. Check out his complete playlist below:

We dance again on Friday June 3rd. You’ll be there, right? We try to start the music right at 8pm–we only dance for an hour so if you’re late, you miss out! My point? Don’t be late! Wear something comfortable and you can sweat in. The dance floor heats up! See you Friday June 3rd 🙂

The Name Game

What a delight we had at our last dance party! On Friday, May 6th, our deejay rocked the house with a music mix made from song titles that featured women’s names. This bit of frivolity tipped the scales towards fun and games! DJ Cher-nobyl selected sixteen songs–was your name included in her playlist? Check out the complete set list below. Our deejays take their inspiration from all sorts of places to create all-new playlists for us. The results are that we have a fresh and completely different music mix each time we dance. Muchas gracias to DJ Cher-nobyl for her efforts.

Gosh, I love this video so much!

Did you miss our last dance party? Fret not–because we’ll do it again on Friday, May 20th. We start at 8pm, so don’t be late. Our music mix will be all-new but I promise–it’ll keep you on your toes!  See you on the dance floor 😀

Many of our regular dancers have been touched by the sudden loss of Prince. So last week, Friday April 29th we decided to reschedule our DJ battle and replay a playlist made up entirely of Prince songs. The catharsis was powerful. It was also heartwarming to see the dance floor filled with so many others who also wanted to celebrate the life of the artist. Although we joke about “no crying on the dance floor,” we aren’t joking when we say DDPP-Akron is a no judgement zone.  We dance our emotions–even in difficult times. Many thanks to the dancers who came together to celebrate Prince and honor our devotion to one of the great artists of the last 100 years.

The evening’s playlist was actually one derived from a 2012 Prince dance party. Hugs, kisses, and thanks to The Den Mother for her help in tweaking the earlier playlist to replay for our needs this past week. Here’s the complete playlist from last week:
