DJ Battle: Who won–the Bride or the Groom?

Image

Last Friday August 16th, we hosted yet another DJ battle–where two deejays meet head-to-head providing contrasting songs to fit a set of categories. However, this past week’s bout was a little different: it pitched Bride vs. Groom (grrrilla beats vs. DJ Necronomi-Tron) in a fight for music superiority.  Who won?  I think the dancers did.

This battle’s categories: a cover song, song from the year you were born (1981 for both of us), a guilty pleasure song, a song released within the last year, a song from a movie soundtrack, a song you liked when you were little, a song that reminds you of high school, and a song that reminds you of college.  Check the playlist:

DDPP-Akron has been the site of several DJ battles before–click HERE to see the last one (I think!?)  It has been a while though.  Interested in your own DJ battle?  Grab a friend and talk to either Den Mother–let’s get you on the schedule!

Do you really want to hurt me?  Do you really want to make me cry?

Our next dance party is a fifth Friday–and you KNOW what that means!  We’re dancing to a movie soundtrack!  (Remember our last fifth Friday?  We danced to the soundtrack of the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever–it was a disco inferno).  On Aug. 30th, we’re dancing to the soundtrack to 1998’s The Wedding Singer (starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore).  Yes, it’s an 80’s music playlist.  Come and join the party: Friday Aug. 30th, 8pm at Martell’s School of Dance.  I’ll see you on the dance floor.

Shake Your Coconuts

Following Junior Senior’s advice was the order of the day–at our last dance party, Friday, August 2nd.  We had a full dance floor as we tripped the light fantastic to a hot dance mix from DJ Deeq.  Inspired from her time in recent months in South Central Florida listening to alternative and Mexican music, she spun a playlist with its own sassy rhythms.  I also loved hearing RuPaul’s hit song “Supermodel” with an updated remix.  Check out her complete mix:

And that’s how you do it!  Many thanks DJ Deeq.  Are YOU on the schedule to be a deejay at an upcoming dance party?  Talk to one of the den mothers after the next dance party so we can get you on the schedule.  Don’t forget: August has a fifth Friday this month, so we plan to dance to the soundtrack of the movie The Wedding Singer!  That’s an ‘8os music soundtrack–so we’ll be rockin’ it out!  You don’t want to miss this.

Do you bob your head too whenever you hear Haddaway’s “What Is Love?”

Our next dance party is Friday, Aug. 16th, 8pm at Martell’s School of Dance in Highland Square.  Enjoy the summer while it lasts–and get your groove on.  I’ll see you on the dance floor.
