Got into the Groove!

And it wasn’t hard to do! The most recent DDPP (1/18) was an easy one to get the rhythm of as all of the songs were fabulous 80’s hits. DJ Stardust made her debut playlist although, you wouldn’t have been able to tell she was a newbie by the masterful way she got us all hot and sweaty and singing!

1. Take Me With You- Prince And Apollonia
2. Call Me- Blondie
3. Fame- Irene Cara
4. Harden my Heart- Quarterflash
5. I’m Coming Out- Diana Ross
6. Into the Groove- Madonna
7. Looking for a New Love- Jody Watley
8. Love is Battlefield- Pat Benatar
9. Lovergirl- Teena Marie
10. Back on the Chain Gang- The Pretenders
11. Sweet Dreams- Eurythmics
12. Take Your Time- S.O.S. Band
13. Upside Down- Diana Ross
14. 99 Luftballons- Nena
15. Glamorous Life- Shelia E.
16. Never Been To Me- Charlene

We try to play all kinds of music here but sometimes you need to go back to your roots to really remember why this whole thing is so much fun. And there is no doubt that this kind of dance party is rooted in the multitude of danceable pop songs from the 80’s. If you don’t believe it, please see the video below for reference:)

On this night we were not just celebrating our newest DJ but also our 100th DDPP. We have gotten together to dance 100 times which is a huge milestone. Our anniversary is also around the corner so come out and celebrate one of our many coming milestones with us — by dancing!

Look, someone did this bedazzling for DJ Stardust!

Make new friends…

The Akron Den Mothers attended a very special Dance Dance Party Party last week (1/11) and I wanted to post about it even though it wasn’t our ‘normal’ DDPP.

We were invited to make a playlist for a local Girl Scout troop and bring our style of dance party to a group of about 30 girls that, with little sisters in tow, ranged from a year old to about 9. The troop moms weren’t ones to be left out so they also joined us on the dance floor, which is obviously what we were hoping would happen. Didn’t want to be the tallest people on the floor:)

The whole group had a lot of fun, us included. We were impressed by their conga lines, their knowledge of the YMCA movements and their newer moves from this video:

We have offered to do this again for other groups and hope to get the chance to spread the ‘DDPP style’ to many young ladies. If you are thinking of doing this yourself, here is our playlist for an example. Note, we had to cut a few songs from the middle once we realized an hour was way too long for the little girls after a tough day at school.

New Music for the New Year!

DJkPod never disappoints when it comes to introducing DDPP to new music that we immediately love to dance to. So, it seemed only fitting that he should ring in the new year with us (1/4), shaking off the stale and old!

I know he is feeling particularly inspired by Metric (the dapper band above), and he is always a fan of Gossip and Blur but a lot of these others are fresh bands that we have not heard before at DDPP. Thanks to our far away friend for sharing his love of modern music with us!

Speaking of modern, this is one of those fancy story-telling videos:
